Remember!!! Sheffield Buccaneers Fencing Club Temporary Change of Venue – 6th December
Due to Birkdale sports hall not being available, our Wednesday fencing sessions on 6th December will take place at The Park Centre, Duke Street, Sheffield S2 5QP. The entrance for the sports hall is at the fire doors on the Coates Street side of the centre. The building has a very tall brick chimney which can be seen from a distance. This is the venue we use for weekend coaching.

Fencing Equipment for Christmas
Our club will be putting in an order for fencing equipment soon in order to be sure of getting things in time for Christmas. If anyone wants to order anything let us know, check out our Fencing Equipment page

October End of Month Competition

It’s that time again! October End of the Month Competition took place last night with a good range of fencers including Richard Grant who has only just finished our beginners course and never used electric equipment. It was also nice to have Rory Gibson on one of his occasional flying visits. This event was running using a fencing ladder system. The final results are –

End of Month Competition and Beginners Course
Another full on night of fencing which combined the 3rd week of our fencing beginners course and our End of the Month Competition for September. This time our competition was done with 2 poules. which were approximately a Senior and a Junior poule. We were very pleased to welcome amongst us Sam Blair who will be helping with our beginners as well as fencing. Many of us have known Sam for many years as a very effective fencer, Sam is starting his studies at Hallam University studying Sport and Exercise Science. Sam succeeded in winning our competition by one point!! Tonight was the 3rd week of our beginners course and our theme was developing more variety in defence. Our beginners are beginning to shape up as fencers very nicely and bringing a lot of energy and enthusiasm to their time in our club.

Fencing Beginners Course!!!
Our Fencing Beginners Course will be starting tomorrow! There are 28 people signed up of all ages. Should be great fun!!!!

Monday Night Fencing Sessions!!!!
From Monday 18th September Sheffield Buccaneers Fencing Club will be running a Monday fencing session at Mercia School, Carter Knowle Rd, Sheffield S7 2DY, this is just of Abbeydale Road –
Map . The session will run from 7:00 till 9:00 and it will be preferable if fencers arrive just before 7:00 as people will need to be let through the door. These Monday sessions were previously run by the coach Pete Ellinger who is now retiring. There is a large car park opposite the main school entrance.

August End of Month Competition

Our August end of term competition took place on 30th August. This time we had 1 round of Poules followed by Direct Elimination including a 3rd-4th play off. After a closely fought final between Mike McKay and Ethan Daikin, expertly refereed by 8 year old Gus Law Mike McKay won 15-12. So AGAIN Mike gets his name on the trophy. The winner of the novice trophy (Under 3 Years Experience) was Cameron Nicholson. Cameron started with our beginners course this year and has just recently been training with our senior fencers………………………Also, there were chocolates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July’s End of Month Competition!
Our regular End of the Month Competition took place on the 26th July and followed our regular fencing ladder format. It was nice to welcome to our club our friend Ed Campion after recent time in Dubai and also Ellie Fraser. It was good to welcome again Hector Prendergast from Harrogate, his brother Felix not able to attend due to a recent appendix operation! We hope he’ll be back in action soon. Everybody got stacks of fencing and this time Mike McKay managed to win with winning a total of 21 bouts out of 22. The Junior members of the club also had a little poule competition fencing, refereeing and scorekeeping all by themselves. The overall events with our Senior event were –

‘End of Month Competition’ for June

Great fun ‘End of the Month Competition’ for June. A total of 14 fencers with fencers from not just Sheffield but also Harrogate, Leeds and Nottingham. Again, a fencing ladder system was used so everybody got lots of fencing. The overall results are –
